Shanker (Mithun Chakraborty) belongs to a poor family, and is living with his brother Ashok (Sumeet Saigal) and his mother in a village. Shanker works as a woodcutter to fulfill the needs of his family and wants his brother to study and become a big man, so he sends him to a college in Mumbai to complete his studies. Shanker meets Rani (Meenakshi Sheshadri), who comes from a missle class family background and they both fall in love.
